An election will be held in Virginia’s 4th district, which includes parts of Richmond, on February 21st, 2023. The seat was vacated after Democratic incumbent Donald McEachin died of colorectal cancer on November 28th, 2022. Democrat Jennifer McClellan, a state senator from the 9th district in Virginia, was elected in the December primary to face Republican Leon Benjamin, a U.S. Navy veteran who ran for the seat in both 2020 and 2022.
For this race, early voting begins on January 6th, 2023. The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is February 10th. If you are not registered to vote OR need to update your voter registration status, you may do so by going to the Virginia Department of Elections website by February 14th. Election day is Tuesday, February 21st!
